Can You Drink Apple Cider Vinegar While Pregnant?

If you want to know the truth behind “pregnancy test with vinegar”, you’ve come to the right place!

Navigating pregnancy often comes with a sea of questions about what's safe and what's not. Among these inquiries, the topic of consuming apple cider vinegar during pregnancy often emerges as a point of curiosity.

As pregnant women prioritize their health, it is natural to wonder how this popular elixir affects them and their babies. Today, we will explore the pros, cons, and considerations of apple cider vinegar during pregnancy.

Can You Do a Pregnancy Test With Vinegar?

Some women may be hesitant to visit a medical store to purchase a pregnancy kit, or they may put off going to the doctor to confirm their pregnancy for whatever reason. And in that case, they can try out some at-home pregnancy tests.

The sugar test, the vinegar test, the bleach test, etc., are just a few of the many at-home methods for determining if a woman is pregnant. The primary factor contributing to the accuracy of this test is the presence of HCG in a pregnant woman's urine.

Because HCG reacts with vinegar, a pregnant woman's urine will turn a darker shade when added to clear vinegar. Therefore, a pregnancy test with vinegar can be a very handy method.

How To Do The Pregnancy Test With Vinegar?

  • Prepare a sanitized container and collect your first-morning urine sample.
  • Fill a separate container with transparent vinegar.
  • Combine your urine with vinegar, giving it a thorough mix.
  • Let the ingredients sit for a few minutes.
  • Observe for any potential colour changes within approximately 5 minutes. A change in colour strongly indicates pregnancy, while the absence of colour change suggests otherwise.

Traditional vinegar pregnancy tests indicate pregnancy by colour change. After settling down for 5 minutes, if the colour does not change, you are not pregnant. If it does, congratulations!

What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a versatile product that can be used in cooking and as a natural medicine.  ACV comes from fermented apples and, in its unpasteurized form, often contains probiotic bacteria that are good for you, including the sought-after "mother."

While touted for potential health benefits, its consumption raises questions for expectant mothers due to the immune system's vulnerability during pregnancy. No conclusive research has determined whether ACV is safe or unsafe for pregnancy, but the potential exposure to bacteria warrants careful consideration for pregnant women.

On the other hand, acetic acid is found in all kinds of apple cider vinegar. Acetic acid is antimicrobial, meaning it promotes the growth of some bacteria while inhibiting the growth of others. Having apple cider vinegar during pregnancy can help with certain pregnancy-related sicknesses.

  • Morning sickness

The acids in ACV may also aid in the treatment of other GI issues. Therefore, it may help some pregnant women who suffer from nausea in the morning.

  • Heartburn

Heartburn is a common problem among pregnant women, especially in the second trimester. Those who don't get good results with over-the-counter antacids can try apple cider vinegar during pregnancy to treat your heartburn.

  • UTI & yeast infections

ACV is frequently suggested as a treatment for urinary tract infections (UTIs). The same is true for yeast infections. Pregnant women may frequently experience both of these conditions.  Apple cider vinegar is a great detoxifier, so dilute it with water by adding 1–2 tablespoons. Drink as much as twice a day.
